“Of Words and Music” Series: Epiphany and Translation
First Thursday “Of Words and Music” Series: Thursday, January 6, 2011
5:30-7:00pm, FREE, all ages
This month’s theme will be “Epiphany and Translation.”
Give yourself over to the pleasures of language and music. This evening will offer up short readings in multiple languages — Spanish, French, Russian, Turkish, and Arabic — with translations rendered by esteemed local actresses Ellen Chace and Laura Robinson and woven together by sounds that complement this international occasion. Additional readers will include Karen McPherson, Amalia Gladhart, Amanda Powell, Ibraim Muhawi and Heghine Hakobyan. One passage read by a local couple from Turkey will be extra special as they are reading it on their wedding anniversary.
Improvised music will be created by multi-instrumentalist, Jeremy Wegner of the Sugar Beets. Jeremy will be playing instruments from all over the world.
More about “Of Words and Music” – Introducing literature and music to Opus VII’s elegant gallery space, the “Of Words and Music” Series will provide early evening performances that weave the written word with instrumental music and song, to create a stimulating aural tapestry. Come after work to enjoy a glass of wine and beautiful sounds. From 5:30-7:00 on the first Thursday of each month.
